The ridge between Fort Washington Avenue and the river was laid out in the 1920s and 1930s as something new for New York: whole colonies of apartments owned by their tenants. Hudson View Gardens, a Tudor village of fifteen buildings from 1925, was one of the first co-operatives in the city; Castle Village, five cruciform towers in a park where a castle had stood, followed in 1939.
Both remain co-operatives, so their sales appear here as transfer-tax filings: the long record of what a view of the Palisades has cost at the quiet end of Manhattan.
